Somewhere beyond the confines imposed on a little girl growing up under brutal dictatorship and house arrest lay a tiny local library whose books managed to trickle their way home. In this desolate and dark world, those books shined like borrowed nuggets of gold. For me, knowledge was emotionally charged from the start, synonymous with empowerment. And freedom.
